UPDATE 5:30 P.M.

As of 4:15 p.m. Wednesday afternoon, fire crews continue to back burn along the Skyline Drive and LB May areas to ensure that the fire doesn't spread, but Osage County Emergency Manager Jerry Roberts says for now, the fire is contained.

Roberts said there have been no injuries reported and so far, few structures have been harmed because of the fires.

After measuring the fire's path, they determined it burned 4,000 acres. This is the only fire that crews are monitoring across Osage County. Roberts asks that any sightseers stay home as firefighters continue to work to extinguish the flames.

UPDATE 11:45 A.M.

Overnight, crews had gotten the fire that was on the outer edges of Pawhuska under control, but as winds picked back up early Wednesday afternoon, firefighters were put back to work in those same areas.

Pawhuska City Manager Jerry Eubanks gives the latest report.

At around 3 p.m., a controlled back burn was taking place on LB May. Because of the heavy smoke and equipment on the roadway, a decision was made to temprarily close that road. No evacuations are currently in effect.

Original Story

A fire that started Tuesday afternoon near Wynona and spread toward the Pawhuska area is still causing issues for fire crews, but as of 9:15 p.m. Tuesday evening, the forward progress of the fire had been stopped.

Osage County Emergency Manager Jerry Roberts said progress had been made, but they are by no means out of the woods.

Near Skyline Drive and the old golf course, which has been closed for several years, is where crews were able to stop the fire from moving forward. Roberts talks about what they are doing to prevent the fire from spreading farther.

Roberts said no injuries have been reported and that one trailer house that had been abandoned is destroyed.
